Milieus und Lebenswelten beeinflussen die Haltung der Menschen zu Bildung und Lernen. The intergenerational experiment of education and lifelong learning has proven its worth in adult and family education and may be regarded as a counter weight to the »expertisation« during the early childhood.
The author presents the idea of Web 2.0 providing new opportunities for the political participation of citizens. First, he evaluates possible target groups. Due to the ongoing process of globalization, the need for trainings for intercultural competences increases. The study aims to measure the meaningfulness of intercultural training without additional coaching. Therefore, it assessed the level of intercultural competence of participants with and without an intercultural training in a cross-sectional study design. This article presents results of a field study exploring why illiterates start relearning reading and writing at a later age. The project SYLBE focused on reasons and obstacles of participants in basic education classes. The study provides a typology of motivations for learning and thus supports the professional acting of teaching staff in basic education.
