Similarly to Austria and Switzerland adult education competencies could be recognized cross-provider in Germany. Within a joint research and development project the DIE and different associations of adult and continuing education develop basics for a correspondent method for teachers. Ausgehend von Ergebnissen der Machbarkeitsstudie "Weiterbildungspass mit Zertifizierung informellen Lernens" werden Definitionen für informelles Lernens und für die Zertifizierung und Fragen der Anerkennung dieser informell erworbenen Kompetenzen, besonders im betrieblichen Kontext, problematisiert.

Recognition of informal professional competencies Learning in informal and non-formal contexts has not yet gained wide-spread political and social acceptance, documentation and certification. Due to its individual and contextual situation, informal learning can be recognized via learning results only. Professional competence, including both formal and informal learning strategies, will constitute the foundation for a comparative evaluation and certification of such competencies and abilities.
