Das Frontier-College wurde 1899 in Kanada von dem presbytanischen Pfarrer Alfred Fitzpatrick begründet. Das Ziel war es, aus den Immigranten und anderen benachteiligten Gruppen mit schlechten Sprachkenntnissen in den abgelegenen Arbeitsorten gute Kanadier zu machen. Es setze auf das Konzept des Arbeiter-Lehrers.
