Based on considerations of the signaling theory and the reputation approach this study examines whether a relationship between employer-provided continuing vocational training and the success of establishments to recruit external qualified staff, can be demonstrated. The empirical analysis is based on a survey of establishments in Germany carried out in 2011. Die Autorin beschäftigt sich mit den Tendenzen der beruflichen und betrieblichen Weiterbildung, insbesondere zu Differenzierung und Kooperationsformen der beiden Weiterbildungsbereiche.
Nach einer kurzen Einführung zum Verhältnis von Öffentlichkeit und betrieblicher Weiterbildung wird anhand einer Einzelfallstudie die Beziehung zwischen innerbetrieblicher Öffentlichkeit und betrieblicher Weiterbildung dargestellt. Als Grundlage wurden unterschiedliche Weiterbildungsmassnahmen in einem Betrieb aus den neuen Bundesländern in der Transformationsprozess ausgewählt. Die Aufgabe der Qualifizierung war in diesem Fall mit strukturpolitischen Aufgaben verknüpft.
