Der Länderbericht informiert über die aktuelle Situation der schweizerischen Erwachsenenbildung - u.a. über die gesetzlichen Grundlagen, die Institutionen und ihr Personal, über Finanzierung und Kosten. Darüber hinaus enthält er einen Überblick zum schweizerischen Bildungswesen und zur historischen Entwicklung der Erwachsenenbildung in der Schweiz. Weiterführende Literatur und eine Adressenliste ergänzen den Bericht.
Der Band enthält Beiträge zu Rahmenbedingungen der Qualitätsentwicklung, zu Qualitätsdiskursen in Arbeitsfeldern der allgemeinen Weiterbildung, zu Erfahrungen mit der Umsetzung von Qualitätsmanagementkonzepten sowie zu daraus resultierenden Perspektiven und Folgerungen.

Why do senior citizens stop taking part in continuing education? The author tries to find and explain reasons, drawing on a survey regarding courses of scientific continuing education of Ulm University. One key finding is that the biggest impediments are a lack of time and other obligations.
Referring to the KOSMOS project, the article examines the significance of quality in academic continuing education, the requirements directed at quality management, and options for development in the project. The focus is on new programmes for non-traditional target groups.
