Such “didactics for adults” should be complemented by specific “didactics of further education” which focus on specific inst…

The expert interviews draw a sober picture of the reality of operational education in the branch: the methods of determination of requirements and of the educational controlling are barely more elaborated than ten years ago; innovations of the industrial relations law do not grip; group work and e-learning are no longer favoured forms. Therefore the further education o…
Death is a central part of our lives, but coping mechanisms are oftentimes less than constructive. The author shows our problematic handling of death and our fear of death and argues that adult education can help facilitate a more productive way of dealing with death and our mortality.

Germany has established an academic track within educational sciences with the focus on planning and management. Switzerland follows a vocational track with a basic qualification for teaching adults that could be extended by qualifications within the vocational system for positions in planning and management. This paper analyses th…

The economy of education identifies various kinds of usefulness of education: individual benefits and also so-called external benefits, by which society profits (internal as well as external benefits can be monetary or non-monetary). These dimensions of usefulness differ in the degree to which they can be quantified. The benefits of education have not been researched as thoroughly as its cost. The more far-reaching welfare effects of further education are especially hard to measure. The evalu…
