The article is based on the assumption that there is a dialectical correlation between biography and society. The authors develop an analytical category to better conceptually capture the influence of education policy frameworks through individuals’ professional performance. The main focus will be on the life stories of two figures which are pivotal for the development of the Hessian or even German history of adult education: Walter Korn and Rudi Rohlmann.

Learning along biographical and career changes Based on a biographical sample from adult education centres (VHS), this article discusses the concept of research on learning environments. The factors for success will be evaluated together with reflections on how to prepare for an executive position in such institutions. „Geringqualifizierte“ gelten in der Wissensgesellschaft zunehmend als Residualkategorie. Anhand sechs qualitativer Interviews ergründet Eva Maaß in ihrer Magisterarbeit die Bewältigungsstrategien und Lebensentwürfe junger Erwachsener, die über keinen formalen beruflichen Abschluss verfügen. Dabei liegt die Annahme zugrunde, dass sich das Scheitern in der Bildungsbiografie aus einer langfristigen Entwicklung heraus ergibt.
