Research-based knowledge, qualification and counselling services for adult education
There is more to the DIE than researching socially relevant aspects of adult education. Its unique profile is based equally on its role in putting its findings into practice. This process is not a one-way street. Transferring knowledge from research into politics and practice goes hand in hand with communication in the other direction - with knowledge gained in practice and needs for further scientific work being conveyed back to the research sector. This is made possible thanks to DIE's various transfer channels - publications, portals and practice networks.
These services enable stakeholders in adult and continuing education to use research-based knowledge. Knowledge transfer at DIE is based on a multi-dimensional understanding, which includes a transfer from and about practiceback into research.

The department is divided into several teams:
Key products of the knowledge transfer are books, journals and online publications produced by the team "Publications". It gives access to research findings and practical knowledge, generates impulses, enables informed decisions, and provides a journalistic setting for the exchange between research, practice and politics in adult education. The publication series are developed particularly for the requirements of the target groups and use increasingly the opportunities of digitalisation and open access.
Digital information infrastructures provide acccess to DIE research findings and practical expertise particularly for trainers, teachers and teamers. The portal wb-web is open for independent transfer between practice and research. wb-web was included in the catalogue of best practice transfer samples by the Leibniz Association.
The project EULE, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research since 2016, plays a key role: It has developed an openly accessible learning space, which was integrated into wb-web at the turn of the year 2019/2020. The learning space contributes to the professional development of educators.
For its transfer, the DIE increasingly uses "social infrastructures" as communication space with practice-partners. For years, this approach has proved successful with the ProfilPASS. Practice networks enable an equal exchange between research and stakeholders in adult education. The DIE brings research data and reflective knowledge into a dialogue with practical needs and expertise. Professionals from continuing education institutions, associations, teachind and continuing education policy are invited to exchange their views, to provide mutual advice and articulate knowledge requirements. DIE research associates use these networks for empirical research and practical testing of newly developed tools.
In order to intensify this exchange, DIE has established a network under the name "DIALOG-Praxisnetzwerk für Wissenstransfer und Innovation“. The network is nationwide and includes 25 further education providers representing the diversity of the field of general, vocational, company, political, scientific and confessional education.
